Frequently Asked Questions
Tools, substrates, materials and documentation. If something is not covered here, ask us directly.
- What tools do I need to install GYP-GRIP?
- A standard cordless drill. The T40 Torx socket is formed directly into the fastener head, and every box includes an 8" T40 Torx bit. No gas-actuated tool and no powder loads are needed. The three-step install covers the sequence.
- Do I need to locate a stud?
- No. GYP-GRIP Drywall is designed to fasten exterior insulation directly to gypsum sheathing, so there is no need to find framing through the insulation.
- Which variant do I need?
- Each variant is matched to a substrate: GYP-GRIP Drywall for gypsum / drywall sheathing, GYP-GRIP Wood for wood studs, plywood, osb sheathing, GYP-GRIP Metal for steel studs, metal liner sheathing and GYP-GRIP Concrete for poured concrete, concrete block, icf walls. The products page sets out each one.
- Which variants can I order now?
- GYP-GRIP Drywall is available now. The Wood, Metal and Concrete variants are launching soon.
- What does the thermal-break cap do?
- The snap-on cap covers the open end of the sleeve and the Torx socket once the fastener is driven flush. It is intended to help reduce thermal bridging through the fastener.
- What is GYP-GRIP made of?
- The body is moulded from high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The embedded screws are sourced from Lealand Industries and are over-moulded into the sleeve as a one-piece unit, so there is no separate hardware to handle.
- How long is the fastener?
- The shaft is 4 inch (101.6 mm), and the T40 Torx drive is shared across every variant. Full dimensions are on the specifications page.
- How does GYP-GRIP differ from the Hilti X-IE-G 6 or Ramset InsulFast T4?
- Both are installed with gas-actuated tools sold separately. According to their published product information, the Hilti X-IE-G 6 is intended for concrete and the Ramset InsulFast T4 for concrete, masonry and steel. GYP-GRIP installs with a standard cordless drill and offers a variant for drywall sheathing. A full side-by-side comparison is on the site.
